Module 1

This week, completing each activity was hard for me. I think I just honestly overthought a lot about my thesis. It made me think and realize that I am passionate about anything. Does anything pique my attention? What do I like as a person? What gets me going? I know that I love being a mom. I love being from the South. I love music, Hip Hop & R&B. I collect sneakers and, finally, being a woman of color. I had to dig deep and see what piqued my interest. I reflected on what makes me happy and what I am passionate about. I even asked a few people for their opinions and what they thought interested me. This module made me think about what makes Shavonne happy and how I could turn that into a thesis.

I think doing this project made me realize I don't have a lot of things I am passionate about. The things I am passionate about may be large and complex to solve. Or at least I am overthinking that aspect of it. After Monday's meeting, I thought about different things I liked or piqued my interest. I tried to find topics that weren't too large but target a specific audience.

  1. I think what was a success was letting my thoughts flow, whether they were wrong or right, if that made sense. I just tried to put things down that I am interested in, regardless of whether someone else found it less attractive.

  2. I think maybe, again, my topics are a bit too large to solve. Maybe being more specific to one of the cities I grew up in regarding the Louisiana Education system topic could help more. I think improving my thoughts on the black mortality rate could be a bit better and more specific.

  3. I learned that graphic design can push the boundaries of a lot and help bring light to many topics if you just sit down and focus more on it. Graphic design thesis topics do not always have to be dull but can be silly. I always thought maybe they had to be one particular way.

We also have a meeting next week since only two of us are in the class. I'm interested to see how this will go. Below is the attached Self Reflection Activity, Thoughts in Journal, and Module 1 PDF.
