Module 3
So, I decided for Module 3 to go with Mom Burnout. Why not a better topic? I’m a mother and highly passionate about being a mother. It’s my other job. At the same time, some people don’t look at being a mother as a job. I feel like it’s a position I choose to pick, and I’m on the clock 24/7. Like I picked to be a graphic designer, I wanted to be a mother. Some insights that I found were about leading expert Dr. Isabella Roskam. She has become a leading expert in the field of maternal burnout. Another really good insight I found was that 63% of women feel like, even before arriving at work, they have worked a full entire day. Also, 48% are so tired they aren’t getting sleep at night, causing them to stay up.
I also was talking to my instructor from another class and spoke with one of my instructors about my thesis. We both agreed that maternal burnout doesn’t get a fair amount of attention, so it’s a much-needed area to shed light on, especially with the rise of mental health concerns from COVID-19. She also felt that soon-to-be mothers should be a target audience, not just current moms. She stated she remembered taking birthing classes before having her first baby, and so much focus was on the physical part of pregnancy and less on the mental health aspects of it afterward. My experience is that once you have a child, they tend to ask how you are doing at every appointment. Once the child has reached age one, that’s it. Nobody asks you emotionally how you are.
